Based in Mokokchung, Nagaland, the band Tune Up Channel formed in March 2015. It is a collaboration of two bands namely ‘Dice’ and ‘The Purpose’ that were also based in Mokokchung. The line-up consists of Moasunep on vocals, Temjenmongba on guitar, Bendangmeren on bass, Sangyumanen on drums and Ayuchner on keyboards. VNe caught up with the up-and-coming band to know more about their debut single which they released recently.
How would you describe your sound?
The band is inspired by different genres of music. Mostly the band is into experimental rock and alternative rock. The band strives to produce good music that can capture the essence of these genres, besides showcasing the spirit of expression through music.
You guys recently released your debut song – You are not Alone, tell us a little about the song and how the response has been.
We want the song to bring hope to the people who face constant disappointment in their life, facing hardships and struggles. It’s all about letting them know that they are never alone and making them understand that they are special. The response has been very good so far. In fact, it turned out to be way beyond our expectations. It feels good to hear people humming our tunes and relating to our lyrics.
Any major influences?
The band is influenced by the international music scene which includes Switchfoot, Paramore, R5 and more. But the major influence comes from the vast indigenous and independent artists from the state of Nagaland and Northeast as a whole. Every new artiste that comes up and every new style of music heard is an influence and an inspiration for the band to strive ahead and work harder.
Currently, we are running through practice sessions as the band is all set to go live. The debut concert of the band will be on 25th of June at Mokokchung. We are also working on some new tunes so hopefully more singles will be released very soon.
