Singer/songwriter Tzudikumzuk Lemtur, otherwise known as Tk Lemtur, mesmerised us with his beautiful and soulful single ‘My Oh My’. We caught up with this up-and-coming musician from Nagaland, currently based in Allahabad, to know more about him and his music.
Tell us a little about yourself and what motivated you to pursue music?
Apart from the singing and the songwriting, I am a regular 22 year old who is all about music and soul, a food fanatic and a lover of art. You put music and food together, top it off with some school work, and voila, that is 80% of my life right there. I enjoy all the simple things in life and tend to draw inspiration from life experiences and the world around me.
As far as I can remember, music has always been a part of my life. Piano lessons since the 2nd standard, choir practice, performing at churches, schools, events and so it just turned out the way it did. Besides, I’ve always been innately inclined towards music, and had a certain kind of fondness towards it and sought comfort from it.
What are you studying in Allahabad? Do you see yourself pursuing music as a full-time career later in life?
I am currently doing my Bachelors in Agriculture (honors) and I am actually in my 6th semester now.
Well, I can’t really say because presently I am trying to balance both my music and my academics, so ultimately I plan to keep on doing the same, i.e. even if I do become an agriculturist, music will always be there. I know for a fact that the line of education that I am pursuing is completely different from music but, hey, who says I can’t try to do both? But then again, we never know what the future holds for us, so maybe I might be a full time musician in the coming years.
You have been writing music since you were 12, do you remember the first song you wrote? What was it about?
Yes, I did start writing music around 12 and yes, I do remember the first song that I wrote. It is rather embarrassing just thinking about it. Well, it was about realizing and accepting a love so kind and whole that it rather seemed unfair and difficult for the chap to accept since he felt himself undeserving of such love. So basically it was about a love that heals.
When you are not writing music, what do you do with your free time?
Well, frankly speaking my academics keeps me on my toes, with all the submissions, presentations, practicals, assignments and sessionals, so any spare time that I get I tend to lose myself in my ‘Musical Domain’. But I do make time to go out for movies and dine out with my mates. I am very active socially and I do perform every now and then.
Any singer/songwriters you look up to?
Tori Kelly is one of my recently added favourite, but all hands down to Bruno Mars and Jessie J. There is just no possible way that I could choose between the two. They are both just simply amazing and inspiring.
What songs are on your playlist right now?
To mention a few – Hollow by Tori Kelly, Jealous by Labrynth, Sex and Candy by Maroon 5, Can’t feel my face by The Weekend and Valerie by Amy Winehouse
