Three young girls from Nagaland have joined hands to start the band ‘90’s Charisma’. Thejangunuo Terhüja, who is currently pursuing her graduation in music, is the keyboardist as well as the vocalist. Chubamenla Ao, pursuing Bachelor in Arts, and Khrielasanuo Linyü, pursuing her Bachelor in Science, are also on vocals. Even though they are still in college, they have managed to come out with a beautiful single called ‘Start All Over’. We interviewed these talented girls to know more –
How was the band formed?
It was through our unending friendship, our dream and also our summer project’16 that gave us the idea to start out a band. We met as classmates, became friends and started performing together in the year 2013, making music video for our school (Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Kohima) for two consecutive years. That’s how the band was slowly formed.
Why did you name it ‘90’s Charisma’?
‘90’s Charisma’ came up because the three of us were born during the 90’s and charisma has to do with the kind of personalities we inherit.
How would you describe your music?
We don’t have a specific genre but the first original has a bluesy pop feel.
How long did you work on ‘Start All Over’?
It didn’t take us much time. It was done within 4-5 days.
How has the response been?
We didn’t expect it but the people were really supportive and very encouraging. We are really thankful for that. There have been both positive and negative responses and we are grateful for that. We welcome all compliments and criticism because we guess that’s how we’re going to improve from what we are now.
Are you working on your next song?
Of course we will be, but not at the moment. We are a little busy with our college schedules. But we’re planning on some gigs in the coming months. We wish to continue performing together because it is through music that the three of us stay connected despite the distances.
