The Pianist, organised by Casio Electronic Musical Instruments India, was recently held in Shillong. Contestants aged between 8 to 44 years, from all over the country, participated in the competition. There were two categories: Junior (under 18) and Senior (above 18). The preliminaries were held on 8th and 9th of February at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Shillong. 107 contestants performed over a span of two days to earn a spot in the Grand Finale which was held at Hotel Polo Towers, Shillong on 11th February.
Lain Heringman from Rain in Sahara and Ribor Mb from 4th Element judged the preliminaries. At the Grand Finale, Kit Shangpliang from Summersalt joined the judges’ table as well. Medarikar Snabi was the anchor for the evening. Twenty eight contestants were shortlisted from the preliminaries to compete on the day of the Grand Finale, which turned out to be a fun musical evening complete with live performances by Pritam Boro and his band Light Fog from Guwahati, and Summersalt from Shillong.
In the Senior category, Lahunlang Sohliya was declared the winner. J Damela Aibiang Tariang won the top spot in the Junior category, and Reuben Donkupar Dkhar won The Rising Star title. The winners took home Casio prizes worth 1.3 lacs. Five exceptionally talented contestants also won consolation prizes. in addition to that, each participant was awarded a certificate of participation from Casio as a token of appreciation for their talent and effort.
The online partner for the event was Vibes Northeast, while Eclectic NorthEast was the magazine partner. The event was managed by Tattva Creations, part of Eclectic Group and one of the premier event management companies based in Guwahati.
