Sangharsh meaning ‘struggle’ is the name of a rap crew from Assam. The two members Eiksooh, real name Chankya Deori and Gaurav Paul also known as PAUL, decided to name the band ‘Sangharsh’ because the struggle never ends in life. They met each other in 2015 through a mutual friend and have been working together since then.
The band’s influences range from Detroit’s Eminem to Mumbai’s Divine. They want to make quality hip hop music representing Assam and the Northeast. Their dream is to see the scene grow in the Northeast. Doing stage performances together helped them build their skills day by day. Their debut single ‘In My Head’ was about the motivation and inspiration that you can ignite within yourself.
On 15th of May, 2017, the band released their second single ‘Khauf’ along with a music video. Both rappers have brought their best to the table. Each verse is energetic. There are a few glitches with the pronunciation and inflection but it is still a video worth watching. ‘We showed how a young boy faces the insecurities of religion, occupation, family dispute and getting bullied by his peers. It’s about how you react towards your problems and if you stand strong, no one can stop you.’
The video has been directed by the band’s close friend, Manish Dey. He also lent his vocals for the subtly auto tuned hook. The concept has been well executed by the cinematographer cum painter and singer.
Mandeep Singh, Taposh Phukan and Samrit Baruah have done the editing of the video and the total expenditure came to about Rs 10,000. It is an example showing that a quality video that does not always demand a big budget but needs dedication, passion and a whole lot of creativity. The band is currently working on an EP.
