Benjamin Liana is a self taught musician with an experience of over two and a half decades now. He held a guitar for the first time at the age of three and has continued playing it ever since. A kitchen manager and proprietor at the Mizoram House Canteen, Benjamin has been playing a mix of his originals and cover of popular songs at various venues across Guwahati. He has also performed at venues in Bengaluru, Meghalaya, Nagaland and in Mizoram.
‘There are good musicians in every nook and corner of Mizoram. One of the many reasons I feel proud to be a Mizo.’
Once a teacher in academic schools of Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya and Nagaland; Benjamin made his way back home to Guwahati and started Play By Ear School of Music at Hotel Grand Starline. He has been imparting his knowledge of guitar and keyboard to his students since 2015.
As an artiste, one of the most ecstatic moments for him was when he opened the show for American instrumental guitarist, Neil Zaza in Guwahati. The icing on the cake was when he received appreciation for his skills from the well-known guitarist.
Benjamin’s first official music video for the released single ‘Human Beings’ is on the making. ‘The song is a question to all human beings. It talks about the fragile nature of human beings. The song reflects upon the fight between good and evil.’
By the second half of this year, Benjamin will start work on his debut album. With three songs already written and one recorded, the album might see the light of day by early 2018. Most of his lyrics ponder upon issues like greed, poverty, jealousy, and preach about love and peace.
