What’s with the sudden new craze for indie in India you say? With a cluster of bands converging to a point to make peppy-guitar lines, heart-pulsating pop-beat laden songs, the ‘scene’ is filled with bands who are trying to do their own thing. And one such band is Delhi based Yesterdrive who released their 3 song EP recently along with a video of their song Hold on off the EP to boost their chances of getting noticed. And getting noticed; they are! With Hold On being aired regularly on Vh1 and Mtv Roots in India, Yesterdrive look like a promising act amongst the ones that have migrated from the Northeast to other places like Delhi to eke out a living by playing their music. Inspired heavily by British rock, their sound is nothing new, but what clicks is the very fact that very few bands in India relate to that sound. Now being Indie in India, diverts a band to a certain sound which feels and sounds ‘Indian’. What also stands out is front-man, Molee’s voice which has a very rich texture to it, again adhering to the British feel of their songs. With an audio engineer in their band in the form of lead guitarist Haggai, and promoted by the guys at Core Conxept, Yesterdrive look like a combo of well crafted musicianship and proper management which is probably the way to go as of right now.
The guys look to farther promote the EP by making videos of the remaining two songs in it and the band which is looking for an extensive tour this summer should bring about happy faces and thinking minds with their songs like Voices and Hold on.
