Zai Mizoram Festival is one of the first ever music festivals to be held in Mizoram where numerous bands and musicians from all over India will be performing on one stage. This anticipated festival will be held on 18th and 19th December. We speak to one of the most popular bands in the state, Dreamhunter, about their expectations from the festival.
How did the band come together?
Dreamhunter comprises of Lalmuanpuia, David Z Hmar, Jmala and Rdee Ralte, we were all budding students of Pachhunga University College, Aizawl in 1993. We have been around in the Mizo music scene for more than 20 years now.
What is the music scenario in Mizoram right now? Are there any places where band regularly play?
Unfortunately, there is no such place in Aizawl or Mizoram where the bands can perform live gigs. Whenever the bands want to play, they organize their own shows. The lack of music promoters and places to hold live gigs have struck the Mizo musicians hard but yet they still keep at it for the love of music.
Do you think the Zai Mizoram Festival will help local artists?
Zai Mizoram Festival is a big thing to happen here and we are all excited about it. The music extravaganza will inspire the youth who are interested in music and will encourage them to take up music seriously.
Have you prepared any new material for the festival?
No, we haven’t. As there will be lot of new people from all across the country, we want them to hear our old tunes. Let’s see how they react.
