Jeff Bordoloi: The Young Singer/Songwriter from Guwahati

No Comments Uncategorized

Jeff Bordoloi from Guwahati, Assam will be releasing his debut EP very soon. He started his musical career in 2013 and since then he has been performing in Delhi and Guwahati as a solo artist. Currently, his entire focus is on the EP launch with his band ‘Jeff and the Souls’.

On this musical journey, he is joined by Rishav Bhuyan on bass, Biraj Baishya on drums and Vijay Kc on guitar. Apart from music, he is also running ‘Georgie’s Retreat Eco Camp/Angling’ located in Sonapur, outskirts of Guwahati.

What got you interested in music?

My interest in music started from a very tender age. During my school days at Don Bosco, Sonaighuli, I was an active member in the ‘Resurrection Church’ and often led the Church band. I guess it all started there.

Any major influences?

Jeff Buckley, Matt Corby, Myles Kennedy, Bon Iver, Alex Vargas, Big Wreck, Ben Howard, Radiohead, The Tea Party, Nick Drake, Sound Garden, Haitus Kaiyote, Snarky Puppy and Kings of Leon to name a few. Jeff Buckley plays a very important part in my musical career. He is my idol.

What is your music like?

My songs are mostly soul oriented and have mixture of me as the singer/songwriter and the band sound. But the EP has a blend of soul/psychedelic/alternative/folk/jazz rock. The songs are very simple and listener-friendly, keeping the basic pop arrangement.

Why did you feel like it was time to release an EP?

I have a huge collection of originals. So, I thought to record a few. I released few of my demos online and got very good response from radio stations abroad namely KKFI 90.1 FM, Kansas City from the United States of America, Valley FM 89.5 Canberra from Australia, 3MDR 7.1 FM Victoria from Australia again, Loop Radio from United Kingdom, Yellow Ribbon Radio from the US, XRP Radio from United Kingdom and Lonely Oak Radio, California, USA, etc.

I was even invited for a Global Live Interview on 18th May 2015 on WHATEVER 68 RADIO, California by Nikki Palomino along with co-host Brian Kroll from the band. I am really grateful to them for helping me out. I would also like to thank Mr Ph Tompok (producer/guitarist) for helping me out in the overall process of putting together the EP. Without him, it would not have been possible for me to complete the EP. Right from the arrangement of the songs to tracking, he played an important role.

Thank you Vibes Northeast team for putting this out.
